Two children who were abducted after gunmen killed their father, Alfa Tunde Aribidesi, at their residence at Gaa Osibi in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have escaped from the den of their abductors.
Tunde, a trader at Ojatuntun, Baboko, Ilorin, was killed on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
His children, Jamiu (12) and Sambo (15), were taken away, as the kidnappers demanded N10m for their release.
It was learnt that the two children, however, escaped on Sunday night after their abductors slept off in the forest.
“The kidnapers used the phone of our late father to contact our family for N10m ransom, but we escaped from the bush when they (kidnappers) were sleeping and we arrived at our house early in the morning,” Sambo said.
A medical doctor (name withheld), who said the two kids were in his hospital, confirmed the development.
A friend of the deceased, Alfa Lawal Taoheed, had on Facebook solicited prayers for the safe return of the kids while negotiation was ongoing with the kidnappers.
He wrote, “The family arranged N7m through a representative. Unfortunately, the kidnappers could not tell the man where exactly to meet them or drop the money, which made him return with it.”

Kwara United coach, Azeez Mohammed, is fascinated by the support his team enjoys in Lagos, following their impressive run of results at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena,
where they are prosecuting their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary matches.
In the first leg of the second-round preliminary game on Sunday, the Harmony Boys rallied from a goal down to sink defending champions RS Berkane 3-1, thanks to late goals from Ahmed Taofeek, Wasiu Jimoh and Barnabas Daniel.
‘’The atmosphere in Lagos is not far from what we get in Ilorin. We are happy we are getting the results. The pitch is good and the fans make it better,” Mohammed said.
The coach added that they knew exactly what they had to do when the task felt insurmountable in the opening stages of the game, after they were pegged back by their opponents inside seven minutes.
‘’We conceded in the first seven minutes and it was due to too much respect for Berkane. We made the boys see how we could achieve our aim at halftime and they came out better in the second half, scoring three goals out of our numerous chances.
“We took the fight to them when we realised they were only defending and we are glad it paid off,” Mohammed added. Kwara have now secured two victories at the arena, having trounced AS Douanes of Senegal by 3-0 in the first round.
The Harmony Boys will hope to make continental history when they face the defending champions in Morocco this weekend in the return leg for a place in the group stage of the competition.

Kwara State Government has directed the shutdown of the ailing Kwara Hotels pending rehabilitation and repositioning of the facility, a statement said on Sunday.
Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology (BIT) Ibrahim Akaje said the shutdown is a forerunner to many interventions that will be done to bring the hotel back to life.
Various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government connected to the facility -- including Harmony Holdings -- are to meet to discuss modalities for the shutdown ahead of the facility renewals, the statement added.
“The government has approved immediate shut down of the facility while rehabilitation and repositioning is done. A section of it had long become dilapidated and totally unusable. It therefore needs to be shut down for safety reasons. Further steps will be taken in phases to restore the glory of the hotel and return it to productivity,” Akaje said in the statement.
This comes hours after the state government announced placement of the Kwara Hotels and Cargo Terminal under the BIT Ministry — and a day after the government again had to intervene in the payment of Kwara hotel staffs because of its inability to pay salaries and meet other obligations.
The Council had also directed that Ministries of Finance and Planning and Economic Development should henceforth make budgetary provisions for the repositioning of the hotel.
Hon. Ibrahim Akaje
